Today the people of Abkhazia honor the memory of those who died in the March offensive operation.

The March operation is considered one of the tragic operations in the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia in 1992-1993. 

On March 15th, 1993 Abkhazian formations forced the Gumista River and captured strategically important heights near the capital. However, the operation that began on the night of March 15th-16th was not successful. After bloody battles on March 17th and 18th Abkhazian units were forced to withdraw to initial positions. 

These are some of the saddest days of the Patriotic War of 1992-1993. During these days 222 fighters of the Abkhazian army were killed, hundreds of people were wounded, 23 people were missing.
