On December 14, 1992, at 4:39 pm, a Russian MI-8 helicopter was shot down by a Strela-2 missile over the village of Lata. The helicopter took out women and children from the besieged city of Tkuarchal. There were 87 people on board, 35 of whom were children. All passengers and crew members were killed.
