The play "The Makropulos Affair" in Helikon-Opera - the only one in Russia staged a late opera of Leoš Janáček based on the play by Karel Capek. In 1925, the famous composer created an opera based on the newly written book of the Czech classics, created at the junction of the Gothic novel and decadent prose. Leoš Janáček kept the structure of the novel, and his work is almost entirely composed of dialogues. This construction requires professional performers acting technique and puts many challenges for the director. It is no wonder that the opera has not received wide acceptance and is rarely put on the opera stage. The play "The Makropulos Affair" tells the story of litigation around the legacy of Baron Ferdinand Josef Prus claimed by Albert Gregor and Jaroslav Prus. However, suddenly rises between opera diva Emilia Marty (Alice Gitsba), which is the great-grandmother of applicants because it holds the secret of the miraculous elixir that allowed her to live for more than 300 years.
