Shalva Inal-ipa - a large Abkhazian scientist, historian, ethnographer, literary critic, one of the brightest representatives of the Abkhaz creative intellectuals of the twentieth century. He was born On October 20, 1916. It is difficult to overestimate the contribution of Shalva Inal-ipa in history and ethnography of Abkhazia. In 1941 he graduated from the Moscow Industrial-Pedagogical Institute. In 1946 post-graduate course at the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography AITSSR, thesis "marriage-law of Abkhaz people". The range of his research was extremely broad. Apart from the main subject of study Shalva Inal-ipa - ethnography of Abkhazia - he was also engrossed in the history and folklore. One of the major works of Inal-ipa is the monograph "Abkhazia", which has an innovative character. Expanding virtually all aspects of the ethnic history of the Abkhaz people, the monograph is in his encyclopedic reference book in this field. The scientist was researching the life, traditions and culture of the Abkhazians living abroad. His work "Foreign Abkhazia" highlights the history and ethnography of the Abkhaz diaspora. Shalva Inal-ipa participated in All-Union and numerous regional meetings and conferences (since 1948), the World Congress (Moscow, 1964; Chicago, 1973). Among the ranks of Shalva Inal-ipa "Honored Scientist of the Abkhaz ASSR" (1962) and "Honored Scientist of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic" (1982), he was also an honorary member of the International Academy of Adyghe Sciences. Shalva Inal-ila died on 22 September 1995, leaving behind a huge scientific heritage. During the time, he has released more than 100 works. Every three years, ABiH and the Academy of Sciences of Abkhazia to conducts scientific conference entitled "International Inal-ipa readings" dedicated to the issues of ethnology, history, culture, linguistics, literature and folklore of the Caucasus.
