The Moscow Abkhaz Diaspora mourns the passing of Aleksey Gogua — voice of an era, chronicler of the Abkhaz soul

Share

With heavy hearts, we received the news of the death of Aleksey Nochevich Gogua — a writer whose pen became a bridge between the past and future of Abkhazia. His prose, like the mountain springs of Apsny, nourished the roots of our national consciousness, and the heroes of his works will forever remain part of the collective memory and cultural code of our people.

In his prose, the voice of an individual is heard not only but also echoes through centuries, a chorus of generations who endured wars and rebirth. Even far from homeland, reading his lines, we feel the scent of mimosa and hear the whisper of boxwood forests — such is the magic of his words.

The scope of his personality was immense, and his clear civic stance and concern for many issues of state-building always reflected the very essence of these questions.

"...Culture is not a joke," he said, "it is not a one-time phenomenon; it is not an illustration for celebrations and holidays. It is a living organism that must remain in constant action and development."

Today we do not say goodbye — we make a vow to memory. May each page by Aleksey Nochevich Gogua become a candle in the hands of descendants, and his dialogues with eternity be a lesson in resilience.
